I did not win the election

I lost my bid to become a member of my local board of education but I am running next year.

Some great things came out of this experience though.

I won my district by getting over 50% of the vote there. Problem is there are 3 more districts....lol

I learned alot and wil not make the same mistakes next year.

Every party or group that puts together a slate has contacted me about running on their team next year.

I have made many great contacts.

I've been offered a position working with the board.

A poetry contest I have been trying to sponsor in the schools going on 2 years now is suddenly going before the board next week.

03/02/08 Update

I am going to kill my campaign manager! LOL I had to attend a youth basketball game yesterday which of course was last minute notice and today 03/02/08 I have to attend a local Pop Warner Banquet and not only was that last minute but I am also a speaker at this event. Thankfully writing that speech was easy because stressing education is easy for me and I want to remind these young men and their parents that their schoolbooks are just as important as their playbooks. Hey Everyone I've got some great news.

I am going to be running for a seat on the Board of Education for my town of Hillside NJ. For some reason known only to God I was at a NJ Nets game last night when I got the phone call asking me if I was interested in running for the Board.

Oh wait a minute. Now I remember why I was at the Nets Game. The tickets were free. But I gotta talk to Jay Z about the $7.50 beers....

Sorry about that. Anyway I said yes after making sure that I was truly wanted and not just the last name on the list after everyone else had said no I said yes. Our children's future is very important to me and this was another way to help more children not just the ones I coach.

I have always wanted to run for office and what a better spot to get your feet wet than in a BOE election. We had a 2 and a half hour meeting to day to pick a team name, start setting an agenda for the schools , picking the campaign colors, to talk about setting up a checking account, who would be the campaign manager, and much more.

I'm very excited and can't wait for the real campaign to start. I have been blogging about Barack Obama for months now and just to be able to get a little taste of campaigning should give me great insight to what goes on in the political world. Yeah I know it's only a BOE election but I'm excited.

I will keep you guys updated and let you know how everything is going.
